Believe in the power of community. On some days when you feel big goals are impossible, or when you feel like giving up, you need to lean on your like-minded community. You can even “borrow” motivation, and in turn “return” with your own inspiring stories to pay it forward.
In this special column called the “TLC x Fempreneurs Series”, we will be featuring inspiring Female Entrepreneurs (Fempreneurs) in short. You will be able to have a sneak peek at their mindsets and their daily habits.
Meet Lily Liew
Constantly challenging her own mindset and skillset, Lily Liew ventured into Hands On Floral after being in the visual merchandising industry for over 15 years. Her passion to provide value and love through flowers led to the birth of Hands On Floral.
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I am Lily Liew, a visual merchandiser and display artist who graduated from fashion design. I am the founder of Hands On Floral. With over 15 years of experience in visual merchandising and window display in retail departmental stores, I decided to venture into a new challenge – to pursue what I am passionate about. Besides providing flower arrangements for events and wedding, Hands On Floral also offers services in visual merchandising and window display.
What got you started on your business?
I always wanted to be my own boss when I was working as a visual merchandiser – I love decoration and event styling. Hence, I decided that I should utilise my knowledge and experience to contribute to a different industry.
I am a hands-on person – I like art, design and decorative installation. Using my style, I usually deliver a creation with its natural beauty, a gift with love.
How do you overcome the difficulties you faced in your life?
I will try find out the reason, try to solve it to the best of my ability and leave the rest to God’s will.
What is your vision / personal motto?
My personal motto is to do what you love, love what you did, able to give value and make contribution. Hence, the motto of Hands Of Floral is ‘with passion with love’.
What excites you most about your industry?
I don’t ever get bored for design, fashion and retail industrial related stuff because I always have different challenges. It’s a highly dynamic industry!
Do you have any word of advice for other ladies who are starting their business / starting to pursue their dream?
Start you business when you are young! Stay hungry, stay foolish!
What have you learnt recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
I feel life is ever-changing and many things can happen to us. It is important to cherish whatever that is dear to us. Without any doubt, health is one of the most important thing we should never take for granted.
Another thing is that we shouldn’t wait for the perfect timing – we should be brave and strong!
What is one thing you are grateful for?
I’m grateful to be able to do what I am in love and passionate with.
What do you do in your free time as self care? How do you unwind?
We like to have a family ride (cycling) during the weekends prior to Circuit Breaker.
I will work out once or twice a week, or having a mask with my favourite movie 🙂
Flowers can also be a kind of self therapy.
