Tell us a little about yourself. What is your business/brand about?
Hi, I am Sonmi, CEO of meeth. Based on the concept of “Beautiful Skin is the Best Jewel”, we create skincare products that make people’s skin beautiful and radiant.

こんにちは、meeth 代表のソンミです。 「美しい肌は最高の宝石」をコンセプトに、人々の肌を美しく輝かせるスキンケア製品を生み出しています。
What got you started on your business?
There was a time when I had skin concerns and was constantly comparing my appearance with others. At that time, I was also very focused on my skincare, trying everything from department store cosmetics to drug store cosmetics. That’s when I learned what suits me and what doesn’t. As my skin changed, my personality and demeanor changed and I started to gain confidence in myself.
I started meeth because I saw the potential behind good skincare, and wanted to create products that would make people love their skin even more, and make them smile.
事業を始めたきっかけは何ですか？
肌悩みを抱えていた時期があり、いつも自分の容姿を他人と比較していました。当時はスキンケアにも力を入れていて、百貨店の化粧品からドラッグストアの化粧品までいろいろ試していました。その時、自分に合ったものとそうでないものを学びました。肌が変わると、性格も態度も変わり、自分に自信が持てるようになりました。
私がmeethを始めたのは、良いスキンケアの可能性に気づき、もっと自分の肌を好きになって、笑顔になってもらえるような商品を作りたいと思ったからです。
Before you started on your business, what did you do on a full-time basis?
I was in the entertainment industry in Japan, working as a model and TV personality.

What were some difficulties you faced in your life and how did you overcome them?
Looking back on the obstacles in my life, there were many. In my case, as my skin became healthier, I also started to look forward to going out and meeting people and was able to look people in the eye when I spoke. This changed my behavior and changed my life, skincare helped me overcome this wall.
これまでの人生で直面した困難はどのようなもので、どのように克服しましたか?
振り返ってみると、私の人生には多くの障害がありました。私の場合、肌が健康になるにつれて、外出や人と会うのが楽しみになり、話すときも目を見て話すことができるようになりました。これは私の行動を変え、私の人生を変えました.スキンケアは私がこの壁を克服するのを助けました.
Who inspires you?
I have many friends who are active in my age group, so I am constantly inspired by them. Particularly inspiring are Shoji Natsuko who was selected as one of the best 50 in Asia for her work as a chef, Koizumi Tomo who has established herself as a designer, and Ueda Momoko who is a professional golfer. They all push me to do my best.

同年代で活躍している友達が多いので、いつも刺激を受けています。特に、料理人としてアジアのベスト50に選ばれた庄司奈津子さん、デザイナーとしての地位を確立した小泉朋さん、プロゴルファーの上田桃子さんには刺激を受けました。彼らは皆、私にベストを尽くすよう後押ししてくれます。

What excites you most about your industry?
It is when I get to hear from the customers. I always feel rewarded when I receive feedback such as “My skin has changed after using meeth”, “The time I spent using meeth is blissful”, and “I’m working hard to use meeth”.

What is your vision / personal motto?
Through skin care with meeth, I want to be the kind of brand that increases the number of women who feel confident about themselves.

Do you have any word of advice for other ladies who are starting their business/ starting to pursue their dream?
If you set a big goal for yourself, you might feel intimidated even before you start, worrying about whether you can do it, and you might not be able to take action because you think about how much preparation you need to do to get started.
However, when I started meeth, I made many visible small milestones rather than setting big goals. As you build on each one, the next milestone becomes clear. So start with smaller goals that allow you to go step by step without fear. If you choose to wait until you are fully confident that everything will turn out okay, life will go by quickly.
ビジネスを始めたり、夢を追い始めたりしている他の女性に何かアドバイスはありますか?
自分に大きな目標を設定すると、始める前からできるか不安で戸惑ったり、どれだけの準備が必要かを考えて行動に移せなかったりします。
しかし、大会を始めた頃は、大きな目標を設定するよりも、目に見える小さなマイルストーンをたくさん作っていました。それぞれを積み上げていくと、次のマイルストーンが明らかになります。ですから、恐れることなく一歩一歩進むことができる小さな目標から始めましょう。すべてがうまくいくと完全に確信できるまで待つことを選択した場合、人生はあっという間に過ぎ去ります。
What have you learnt recently that you hope the other ladies can take back?
If your skin is feeling dry, apply lotion to your skin immediately after washing your face, without using a towel to dry it.
I also share skincare advice in my book “Beautiful Skin is the Best Jewel” 「美肌は最高のジュエリー」.
最近学んだことで、他の女性たちが取り戻せることを願っていますか?
肌が乾燥している場合は、洗顔後すぐにタオルを使わずに化粧水を肌になじませてください。
著書「美肌は最高の宝石」「美肌は最高のジュエリー」でもスキンケアのアドバイスをしています。
How do you think you can help ladies to feel confident and empowered?
There is a quote I keep close in my heart, told to me by someone I respect. “The confidence that you obtain from others is fragile and can easily crumble. However, the confidence that you obtain from your own experience will not collapse no matter what happens. If you don’t have confidence in yourself, do whatever you set your mind to.” If you keep doing that, you will become more confident.
女性が自信を持ち、力を与えられるようにするにはどうすればよいと思いますか?
尊敬する人から言われた、心に留めている言葉があります。 「他人から得た信頼はもろく、崩れやすいものです。しかし、自分の経験から得た自信は、何があっても崩れません。自分に自信がないなら、自分が決めたことを何でもやりなさい。」それを続けていれば自信がつきます。
